Aragogue: A Unique Asymmetric Luminaire for the Dining Table

Creating a Strong Personality in Dining Spaces

Designers Romulo Teixeira and Cintia Miyahira introduce Aragogue, a one-of-a-kind luminaire that adds a touch of contemporary industrial style to dining spaces. With its asymmetric design and stainless steel construction, Aragogue stands out as a statement piece that brings personality to any interior.

Inspired by the need to create a standout luminaire for a dining space in one of their interior design projects, Teixeira and Miyahira set out to design Aragogue. The initial concept revolved around using stainless steel and painting the luminaire in a vibrant color. However, they soon decided to embrace asymmetry and sharp edges to make it truly unique. The luminaire was painted in a striking pink hue and placed above the dining table, becoming the focal point of the entire apartment.

What sets Aragogue apart is its completely asymmetric design. Crafted from stainless steel, this luminaire exudes a contemporary industrial aesthetic. Teixeira and Miyahira designed it specifically for a client who wanted their dining space to showcase a strong personality without clashing with the rest of the apartment's decor.

The realization of Aragogue required the expertise of skilled welders who could work with stainless steel. Teixeira and Miyahira faced challenges in finding a welder who shared their vision and had the necessary skills. Eventually, they found a welder who not only supported their ideas but also contributed valuable experience to the project.

Measuring 400mm in height, 1800mm in width, and 350mm in depth, Aragogue is a substantial luminaire that commands attention. Its cylindrical stainless steel structure cleverly conceals the electrical wiring, ensuring a clean and seamless appearance. The choice of stainless steel over iron was driven by the humid beachside location of the project, as stainless steel is resistant to rust. To address the weight issue, a lighter cylindrical tube was used.

Aragogue is operated using a standard switch, allowing users to easily turn it on or off. Its handmade construction involved close collaboration between the designers and the welder, with their combined insights and expertise resulting in a truly exceptional piece.

Aragogue was created in 2016 in Santos, Sao Paulo, Brazil. The designers conducted extensive research to find the right materials and skilled craftsmen to bring their vision to life. The luminaire has since garnered recognition, winning the Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category in 2018. This prestigious award celebrates well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.

With Aragogue, Teixeira and Miyahira have successfully crafted a luminaire that combines contemporary industrial design with functionality. Its unique asymmetric form and stainless steel construction make it a standout piece that adds personality and style to any dining space.
